What is noteworthy about the word “defeated”?

Judges 20:35 (ESV)

35 And the LORD defeated Benjamin before Israel, and the people of Israel destroyed 25,100 men of Benjamin that day. All these were men who drew the sword.

The term for defeated is the same one used in Exodus 12 to describe the plague on Egypt’s firstborn (Exodus 12:23, Exodus 12:27). The Lord struck and wiped out Benjamin.1
