For the God-fearing people of Judah, there is only one thing left to do. With deep humility, they must call on God for mercy. After all, God had also promised that he would not forget Israel forever (Leviticus 26:40–42). Jeremiah calls the people to weep and cry to God without stopping.
18 Their heart cried to the Lord. O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears stream down like a torrent day and night! Give yourself no rest, your eyes no respite!
