We do not read much about the attitude of the Israelites during the plagues. Did they also suffer (somewhat) under the plagues? Perhaps they did under the first plagues. But starting with the fourth plague, we read that God makes a distinction between the Egyptians and the Israelites (Exodus 8:22). Before the plagues, we find faith among the Israelites (Exodus 4:31) as well as rebellion (Exodus 5:20–21).
With the announcement of the tenth plague, Israel obeys and honours the Lord (Exodus 12:27–28). Undoubtedly, Israel was glad when it could leave Egypt as a free people, but the tranquility was soon gone when they noticed that Pharaoh was chasing after them (Exodus 14:10–12; compare with Psalm 106:6–7). Only after they had safely passed through the Red Sea and witnessed the destruction of Pharaoh (and his soldiers) do we read that Israel fears and trusts in God (Exodus 14:31).
