Submission to the King

Judges 21:25 (ESV)

25 In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

With Christ as king, and righteousness and holiness for those who believe in this king, there is the call to no longer do what is right in our own eyes, to act like Canaan, but to submit to this righteous King. He is the eternal King, who governs us by his Word and Spirit and defends and preserves us in the salvation he obtained for us. What better King could you ask to live for? He rules over you by his heavenly, gracious Word and Spirit, and he protects and keeps you in the faith. If you want to do what is right in his eyes, do not cohabit with sin, but bend the knee to him and confess that he is Lord of your whole life. Offer up your body not to Canaan, but to the Lord Jesus Christ as a living sacrifice, and let your thinking and living be shaped not by the world but by his Word. He has brought you out of the kingdom of Canaan and into the kingdom of heaven. Live according to that kingdom code of ethics, where you do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God. And rejoice that the King is coming soon, and all will bow and say, The King reigns! Evermore live the King!
