The synagogue was the place where Jews would gather for worship and social events. This is a very natural place for Saul to begin his calling and engage Jews in conversation regarding the Scriptures and what they teach about God.1 It would serve to become Saul’s standard missionary practice (Acts 13:5, Acts 13:14; Acts 14:1; Acts 17:2, Acts 17:10, Acts 17:17; Acts 18:4, Acts 18:19; Acts 19:8).2 In the Greek the verb is in the imperfect tense which suggests that Saul was preaching in the synagogues of Damascus for some time.3
20 And immediately he proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.”
