Why did Saul and Barnabas go to Paphos?

Acts 13:6 (ESV)

6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus.

Paphos is about one hundred and eighty (180) kilometres to the west of Salamis. Saul and Barnabas travel to this city because it contained a Jewish synagogue (an inference based on the presence of Elymas), and a harbour. They hoped to visit the region of Galatia after their travels through Cyprus. Paphos was the capital of Cyprus.
