Where was Cyprus, and why is this place mentioned here?
Isaiah 23:1 (ESV)
1The oracle concerning Tyre. Wail, O ships of Tarshish, for Tyre is laid waste, without house or harbor! From the land of Cyprus it is revealed to them.
Cyprus, an island in the Mediterranean, was called Kittim in the time of Isaiah. The ships passing by Cyprus on their way back to Tyre would already have heard the news about the destruction here.
