Even after the fall of Jerusalem, the majority of Judeans still did not repent and humble themselves (see Jeremiah 40:1 – 44:30). They still mocked Jeremiah (verse 14) and made him out to be a liar (Jeremiah 43:2). In all of this, Jeremiah still sees the actions of God himself. It is he who pierced Jeremiah’s heart with arrows and filled him with bitter food.
