Indeed, Job had repeatedly claimed to be pure and free from guilt (Job 9:21; Job 10:7; Job 13:19–23; Job 16:17; Job 23:7, Job 10:1 – 12:25; Job 27:5; Job 31:1–40). It is not that he claimed to be sinless (see Job 7:21; Job 10:6; Job 13:26), just as God did not say Job was sinless when he described Job as a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil
(Job 1:8). So far, Elihu finds no problem with Job’s words.
