Yet it is not Elihu’s intention to stand against Job, as his opponent. It is as if he suddenly remembers that he had invited Job to answer him if he could (see Job 33:5–7). Elihu wants to see Job humble himself, but he also wants to see Job defend himself. If only Job could do so in a way that does not undermine God’s wisdom and righteousness!
