Jeremiah pleads with the Lord to uphold his cause against his false accusers. It is not that Jeremiah thinks he is innocent before God—he has repeatedly confessed his people’s sin as his own. But between him and his own people who persecuted him, the right was on his side (see Jeremiah 11:20). They plotted against him, even after his prophesies were fulfilled (Jeremiah 44:1–30).
