There are a number of people known to have died and come alive again, including the son of the Shunammite woman (2 Kings 4:35), Lazarus (John 11:1–57) and several others in the Gospels (Matthew 9:25; Luke 7:15; Matthew 27:52), and of course Jesus himself. But Jesus was the only one of those raised from the dead who did not die again; he is “alive forevermore” because he is master over death (John 10:18; 1 Corinthians 15:20–21; Romans 6:9). This is the One, then, who undid the curse pronounced in Genesis 2:17! His triumph is the guarantee of the redemption of all who believe in him.
