The glorious things said of Zion include a recognition of the fact that Zion alone is designated as the city of God. The city of Zion is associated with life (Jeremiah 2:13) and salvation (Isaiah 12:3), a river whose streams make glad the city of God (Psalm 46:4; Ezekiel 47:1–23; Revelation 22:1–5).1 Other cities may be larger (e.g., Rome, which had a population of almost one million people), more beautiful and rich (e.g., Athens), and full of culture and knowledge (e.g., Alexandria). But Zion is the only city that God loves and where he dwells.
