Most likely springs
refer to the source of life. The source of life is found in Zion because that is the place where God has made his presence known.1 This interpretation corresponds with the idea of rivers flowing from God’s city (Psalm 46:4; Ezekiel 47:1–23; Revelation 22:1–15). Zion is a secure and glorious city because it is the city where life can be found, in God’s presence.
