Deuteronomy 4:31 (ESV)

31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.

God is a compassionate God. He is always ready to receive his people back, even though his people would break or forget the covenant and their God. He will never forget his covenant, which goes back to the commitment he made to the patriarchs.
