The one who “has eyes like a flame of fire” perceived that the congregation “tolerate[d] that woman Jezebel.” The term translated as “tolerate” is actually the word for “forgive.” The point is that the congregation knew what this member of the church was teaching and doing, but instead of rebuking her they forgave her errors and so permitted her to continue her negative influence.
20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servantsto practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
