This final section of chapter 11 is a self-contained unit, since it opens and closes with the same phrase: Joshua took the entire land.
1 The unit can be divided as follows:
A geographical description of the land that was taken (Joshua 11:16–18)
A theological explanation for the defeat of the Canaanite kings (Joshua 11:19–20)
A confirmation that the strongest enemies have been destroyed (Joshua 11:21–22)
Rest, just as the Lord promised (Joshua 11:23)
