Esther 2:5 (ESV)

5 Now there was a Jew in Susa the citadel whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, son of Shimei, son of Kish, a Benjaminite,

From the palace of Ahasuerus, the story moves to the home of a Jewish man named Mordecai. Mordecai lived somewhere in the citadel (the area that surrounded the palace). He was probably named after Marduk, the highest Babylonian god. This suggests that he had been born in exile.
