Mordecai had already received unexpected honour on the morning of that day. Now he was promoted even further. The king appointed him in the place of Haman, as the second most powerful man in Persia. The king’s signet ring would enable Mordecai to issue edicts as he saw fit.
Furthermore, Esther appointed Mordecai over Haman’s entire estate. Mordecai was evidently no ordinary official. He had financial and administrative expertise.
In this way, an eventful day drew to a close.
2 And the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
