Is Paul identifying with Job?

Philippians 1:19 (ESV)

19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance,

What Paul writes is very similar to the words we find in Job 13:16 following the Greek translation. It is striking that Paul uses the same term for turn out (apobesetai) as the Septuagint, a verb that we do not find anywhere else in his letters. Greijdanus believes, therefore, that the apostle is purposely citing Job’s words here as a means of expressing his own firm conviction.1 Amidst his own plight it seems as if Paul is identifying with Job. Both speak of their deliverance or salvation. Doubtlessly, what Job had in mind first and foremost was deliverance from his miserable condition.2 After all, Job was ill and his friends had judged him wrongly. To Paul the prisoner, however, deliverance meant something a little more.3
