What makes this so is sad and striking is that these places were where Joshua had defeated them and the sun had been made to stand still (Joshua 10:12). Indeed, it is where Joshua was buried (Judges 2:9). What an appalling situation, that the Canaanites should recapture these great memorial sites! What a sad contrast with the former victory at this location!
