1. Judges 3:7–11 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What elements in this account are new, in relation to 2:11–19?

Judges 3:7–11 (ESV)

7 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. They forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.

The Israelites cry out to the Lord, and the Lord's Spirit comes upon Othniel (cf. the more general statement, The Lord was with the judge in Judges 2:18). This is a reference to the Spirit for the first time in this book.1
