1. Judges 3:12 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does "Eglon" mean?

Judges 3:12 (ESV)

12 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done what was evil in the sight of the LORD.

The name is the diminutive form of “bull,” so it means “little bull” or “little calf.” This name, unlike “Cushan-rishathaim” in the previous passage, may well have been the king’s actual name.
