It was clearly not enough for Barak to go up with 10,000 men. He had to have Deborah go as well. This is in spite of the fact that Israel had previously had success against the same amount of enemies (Judges 1:4; Judges 3:29). Barak discounts the promise of the Lord himself to deliver the enemy into Barak’s hand (Judges 4:7).
