Christ Jesus has ascended into heaven and sat down on the throne at God’s right hand (Mark 16:19; Acts 7:55–56; Ephesians 1:20; Colossians 3:1). While still on earth Jesus had told his disciples that those who followed him would sit with him on glorious thrones (Matthew 19:28; Luke 22:30). So Paul could write that God has seated the saints with Christ “in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 2:6). Jesus, “the ruler of kings on earth” (Revelation 1:5) and “the ruler of God’s creation” (Revelation 3:14) now repeats the same promise for those who “conquer” (see also Revelation 20:4–6; Revelation 22:5). All that’s Christ’s will also belong to his people! For persons Jesus describes as wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked, this is a glorious turn of events!
21 The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
