1. Revelation 11:15 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How has this kingdom become the kingdom of the Lord and of his Christ?

Revelation 11:15 (ESV)

15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

Through his victory on the cross Jesus Christ has disarmed the rulers and authorities (Colossians 2:15) and received from the Father all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18; Ephesians 1:20–21). As a result, Satan, together with every angel who rebelled with him, is under Jesus’ feet (Revelation 10:2). The inhabitants of heaven have witnessed the implications of Jesus’ ascension as described in Revelation 5:1–14 and so declare the facts as they are: this fallen world has already become (finished action according to the Greek) the kingdom of our Lord. Nothing of what John will see next will take away from that wonderful reality.
