The list of Ezra 2:1–70 begins with the people returning to their own town (Ezra 2:1) and it ends with the people settling in their own towns (Ezra 2:70). The key message is that the people of Israel who were sent off into exile have come back to the land that God has given to them.
1 Now these were the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried captive to Babylonia. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town.
