The general population lived on wheat and probably only barely eating meat at festivals (Deuteronomy 12:17–18) and otherwise eating whatever fruit and vegetables they could get. These leaders, however, are able to buy the choicest meat. It also seems as if they are able to avoid work because of their wealth, as they lie on their ivory beds, couches of which the wooden frames are inlaid with ivory decorations.1
