1. Amos 6:11 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Will only the great and little houses be destroyed?

Amos 6:11 (ESV)

11 For behold, the LORD commands, and the great house shall be struck down into fragments, and the little house into bits.

The mention of great and little houses is an example of a merism. A merism is a literary device whereby a combination of two contrasting parts of the whole refer to the whole. Thus all kinds of houses of different shapes and sizes are included and will be destroyed.1
