Amaziah was a common Old Testament name meaning the Lord has been mighty. Amaziah was a priest at Bethel and appear to have had a close connection with King Jeroboam since he sends him a message.
No mention is made of Jeroboam’s response to Amos’s message.1
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.
