What were the sins of the people of Israel?

Amos 2:6–8 (ESV)

6 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals

There are four crimes that Israel has repeatedly committed: unnecessarily selling the poor into slavery, perverting the justice of the oppressed, engaging in illicit sexual intercourse, and taking financial advantage of the poor.1 All these acts were a gross abuse of power.
