These witnesses—they stand for the church of the Lord—receive the same privilege as Jesus received. He had testified faithfully of God his Father (John 12:49–50) and so was killed, as happened also to these witnesses. The Saviour had spent a divinely allotted period in the realm of the dead, as happened also to these witnesses. The Lord arose from the dead and ascended into heaven, and that’s what may happen to these two witnesses also. They have shared in Jesus’ suffering and so may also publicly share in his glory.
12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies watched them.
