1. Mark 3:26 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the argument behind the question concerning Satan rising up against himself?

Mark 3:26 (ESV)

26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end.

Before Jesus tells the scribes a parable, he presents them with a logical argument: why would Satan rise up against himself? Logically it does not make any sense for Satan to fight and destroy himself. Because if Jesus was possessed by Satan as they claim, then by driving out demons, Satan would be weakening and destroying his own kingdom.
