1. Mark 3:27 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the aim of the parable of the strong man's house?

Mark 3:27 (ESV)

27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.

Having shown the logical flaws in the accusation of the scribes, Jesus now goes on to explain to them why he has the power to drive out demons. He does so by means of a parable, the parable of the strong man and his house. In this parable, Jesus is the one who enters the strong man’s house and Satan is the strong man. The reason why Jesus can drive out evil spirits is because he has bound Satan, he has tied him up. Now, he can carry off all of Satan’s possessions. He can free people who have been possessed and controlled by Satan.
