A windstorm (ESV) or squall (NIV) is a sudden violent gust of wind or a localised storm. The Sea of Galilee is often subject to such storms. When the cold air from Mount Hermon meets the rising warm air from the sea, it can result in a storm that sweeps down on to the lake from the heights.1 This storm would bring strong winds and rain.
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
