Psalm 107
Psalm 107:23–32 encourages us to know that it is the Lord who controls the seas. Singing this before reading from Mark 4 means that church members will already know something of what the Old Testament taught about the Lord. When they thus hear what Jesus does, they will connect his work with the work of the Lord in the psalm.
Psalm 46
Psalm 46:1–11 encourages us not to fear because God is in control and he rules over all creation. The psalm contains the lines: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam.”
35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”
