Since none is so great and so desirable as the beast they worship, people from around the globe conclude that any opposition to the beast is hopeless. None is greater than their hero! As the beast gives expression to the evil bent of the fallen human heart, this (rhetorical) question (and the previous one) forms the embodiment of human independence from God (Genesis 3:5).
4 And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?”
