What is the falling of the stars compared to?

Revelation 6:13 (ESV)

13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale.

Their falling is compared to the effect a powerful wind has on a fig tree; the shaking prompts one fig after the other to fall till there are no figs left in the tree (see also Isaiah 34:4). Similarly, at the opening of the sixth seal, the constellations God placed in the sky come unstuck from their positions so that they no longer twinkle in the night sky.
