The Lord uses the image of the vine and the fig tree. Despite all the work that has been done, they do not yield grapes and figs. This means that the people of God do not bear fruits of gratitude to the Lord. He might as well destroy the vine and the fig tree.
13 When I would gather them, declares the LORD, there are no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree; even the leaves are withered, and what I gave them has passed away from them.”
