What is behind the word "dwelt"?

John 1:14 (ESV)

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The word translated as dwelt actually refers to pitching a tent or a tabernacle. It is used by John in order to encourage readers to remember how God met with Israel in a tent before the temple was built (Exodus 25:8).1
