We are indeed saved by grace and not by our works. Our salvation is totally the work of Christ, not our work. But the Bible also teaches that our faith is not in vain. That is a great message for the persecuted church (Matthew 5:11–12). The Hebrews were persecuted because they did not go to the synagogue anymore. Does God see that? Yes, he does, and he is not unjust and will not overlook their work and the love they have shown (Hebrews 6:9–11).
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
