Though Jude has encouraged the church to keep themselves in the love of God, his ultimate confidence is not in their ability but in God. God will protect and purify his church, he will guard his people and keep them from falling into or persevering in sin. The first part of the doxology (which is a song of praise) is a prayer for God’s preservation of the recipients from the spiritual disaster with which the false teaching threatens them. Having stressed the responsibilities of the church, Jude now assures them of God’s help.1
