We do read something about the archangel Michael in the Bible. He is identified as an angel who protects Israel (Daniel 12:1) and fights for them (Daniel 10:13, Daniel 10:21) as well as one who is used by God to execute judgment against Satan (Revelation 12:7–9). Gabriel is another archangel (Daniel 8:16). What distinguishes an archangel from an angel is not clear.
9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.”
