1 Corinthians 1:26 (ESV)

26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.

From here to 1 Corinthians 1:26, Paul offers a second argument in support of his application of Isaiah 29:14. His second argument is that, judged by human standards, the church in Corinth does not consist of people who are important in the eyes of the world.

Paul mentions three types of important people: the wise, the powerful (people who have positions of power in society), and the noble (people who are of high birth). In calling people to salvation in Christ, God has passed over many of these people.
