The fact that the Corinthian church is largely made up of people who are lowly and insignificant should stir up humility in their hearts. Paul concludes this second supporting argument with a reference to Jeremiah 9:23–24. Here, Paul’s reference to the Lord
is probably a reference to God the Father. God the Father has destroyed human wisdom, has chosen the lowly, and has given Christ to be our wisdom. Therefore, believers should boast in him alone.
31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
