Although the Lord is already judging his servants, the outcome of his judgment will become known only on the day when he comes. Then he will reveal the secrets of all people’s hearts, secrets that he has fully known all along (1 Kings 8:39; Psalm 139:1–2; Hebrews 4:12–13).
5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
