The reason why the church has fallen under God’s judgment is that the church members have not been judging themselves. Rather than examining themselves (1 Corinthians 11:28) and repenting of their sin, they have continued to act in ways that bring shame on the name of Christ.
It is noteworthy that Paul nowhere rebukes church leaders. Nor does he even mention them. This strengthens the impression that, at the time of Paul’s writing, the Corinthian church did not yet have elders (see 1 Corinthians 5:3).
