Jeremiah is a prophet from Anathoth (a village about an hour’s walk northeast of Jerusalem). He is a young man (15-20 years old) when he is called by God to pass on his Word to his people as well as to the nations. He started his work as a prophet in 627 BC (the thirteenth year of King Josiah’s reign) and continued until the beginning of the exile (586 BC). Thus, he served as a prophet for about forty years.
