Men who plan and execute evil plots may succeed in bruising the heels of the righteous, but ultimately their own heads will be crushed. Haman’s gallows, intended for Mordecai, served for his own execution (Esther 7:10). Those who plotted to have Daniel cast into the lion’s den succeeded only in exalting Daniel and having themselves and their families destroyed by the lions (Daniel 6:24). Those who thought that the cross would silence Jesus and scatter his followers were themselves overcome by the same ruthlessness they employed (the Jews in 70 A.D., the Romans a few centuries later). Meanwhile, Jesus lives forever to make intercession for his Church, which continues to flourish through the ages.
27 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and a stone will come back on him who starts it rolling.
