Joshua 18:1 is the first time that the tent of meeting is mentioned in the book of Joshua. The tent of meeting was the tabernacle, the place where the people of Israel would bring sacrifices and come to meet with the Lord (Exodus 33:9; 1 Samuel 2:22).1 This was where God dwelled in the midst of his people and where his presence could be found (Exodus 25:8; Exodus 29:42–46; Numbers 35:34; Deuteronomy 12:4–7).2
1 Then the whole congregation of the people of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The land lay subdued before them.
